Italian Language Camp for Youth

Summer Language Camp for Youth – VIVA L’ITALIANO!

Dr. Joli Love, Associate Professor of Italian at Harding University offers two one week language camps for children. This camp is an immersion language experience for youth ages 7-17 years.

June 13 ~ 17 (recommended for ages 7–12 yrs)
June 20 ~ 24 (recommended for ages 13–17 yrs)

Youth will be at all times supervised by two adults and a camp counselor. Awards and surprise prizes will be conferred during Friday’s Final show presentation and potluck lunch hour.

April 18, 2016, 6 pm – Basilicata Dinner at St. Rose Parish Hall, 320 Tenth St. Santa Rosa. Dinner will honor the region of Basilicata in southern Italy. The menu reflects the food of the region with a salami, cheese, bread and vegetable platter, pasta with pork ragu, mixed vegetables, salad and dessert. Doors open at 5:00 pm – Dinner at 6:00 pm.
$15 – Members , $17 – Guests,  $12 Teens – 13–18, $ 8 – Child 5–12, Free – Child under 5.
Reserve by April 13 – Make checks payable to NBICF. Mail to 64 Brookwood Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95404. 

April 22, 2016, 7–9 pm – Italian Wine School begins with Wine 101. NBICF Board Director Mark DeVincenzi, Sommelier and Certified Wine Educator, will uncork the secrets of Italian wine in a 6-class Series starting with Wine 101 on April 22. Italian wine series: May 6, 13, 20 and June 3, 10, 2016, 7:00 to 9:00 PM. For detailed information about the curriculum & registration instructions, look for Wine School in the March-April NewsletterThe deadline to register has been extended to  April 9. 

April 24, 2016 – 2 pm – Sundays at the Center with Diane McCurdy, Movie – Garibaldi’s Lovers, (in Italian with English subtitles). No reservations necessary.

Italian Film Series at SRJC Petaluma

Italian Film Series at SRJC Petaluma Campus

Want to learn conversational Italian through beautiful films? The ever-popular Italian Film Series returns to SRJC Petaluma this Spring.  The film series will be bundled into Caterina Labriola’s conversational Italian class (ITAL 50A, section 6072starting at 6pm on Feb 23.  To enroll in the class, please visit the Schedule of Classes at www.santarosa.edu.  

In addition, all films are open to the public and have English subtitles. Individual tickets can be purchased the night of each of three Friday shows: 3/11  (La Prima Cosa Bella), 4/8 (L’Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio), 4/29 (Cinema Paradiso).  Time: 6 pm-9 pm – General Admission: $5, Seniors & Students: $4.  Click here to view the event poster providing a summary of each film.

Sunday, August 23,  2 pm – Ben Slavin Concert at Italian Cultural Center 
Come for an afternoon of music by Ben Slavin, an American musician who lives in Naples. Ben is an American folk singer who performs songs about Naples from the point of view of an American ex-patriot. Ben’s songs will give us an inside look into a metropolis which boasts a 3000 year history. Ben sings in English but may also sing in the Napoletano dialect. Seating is limited to 25 – reserve by calling the Center at 707-591-9696. 

Sunday, August 30,  2 pm – Movie at the Center – Bitter Rice, Riso Amaro, a 1949 Italian Classic. Francesca & Walter are two-bit criminals in Northern Italy. In an effort to avoid police, Francesca joins a group of rice workers in the South. Doors open at 2 pm, film at 2:30.

Saturday, September 19, 1-5 pm – Painting Italy Workshop at the Center – $35 – includes instruction, a canvas to take home, use of brushes & paints, plus snacks & drinks. No experience necessary. To enroll, email Susan Terracina Adler by August 19 at adler@sonic.net

Italian Classes at the NBICF Italian Cultural Center

For information on Italian classes at the NBICF Cultural Center, visit the Language page. NBICF offers an annual Summer Language Camp for Youth, an Advanced Intermediate Conversation & Grammar class and an Italian Conversation Incontro weekly meeting at the Center. 

Alert – Summer Language Camp Extended

The Summer Language Camp for Youth has been extended for another week. The June 15-19 Class has been rescheduled to June 22-26. 

This camp is an immersion language experience for youth ages 7-17 offered by Dr. Joli Love, Associate Professor of Italian at Harding University. 

JUNE 22 ~ JUNE 26, 2015 ~ 9:00AM to Noon – (open to ages 7 to 17)

Youth will be at all times supervised by two adults and a camp counselor. Awards and surprise prizes will be conferred during Friday’s Final show presentation and potluck lunch hour.

Fee schedule: $55 for one week, $100 for two weeks. JUNE 8 ~ JUNE 12, 2015 ~ 9:00AM to Noon – (recommended for ages 7 to 12)
JUNE 15 ~ JUNE 219, 2015 ~ 9:00AM to Noon – (recommended for ages 13 to 17)

All ages are accepted, however, the second week of Camp is recommended for ages 13-17 years. Exceptions will be made for Campers younger than 13 years ONLY if they have participated during the first week of camp and ONLY under teacher’s advisement.
